Animals Did It First - How Do Animals Build Habitats? | Science Documentary | Reel Truth Science
Like humans, animals have evolved ways of manipulating their surroundings to suit their own demands. Homes, fortresses, roads and bridges, some are even into home decorating. Every one of the engineering principles that underpins human architecture has a parallel in the natural world. The leaf-cutter ant invented agriculture 200 million years before we did. Honeybees raise their young in hexagonal cells, a space-saving design tip that inner city architects are just beginning to employ. Bowerbirds decorate their nests with bright objects. A termite mound is a masterful example of air conditioning technology that mimics our greatest skyscrapers. Some creatures have even made their homes within our sterile metropolises.
The creativity of humans is astounding. We design ever more outlandish clothes to help us attract a mate and even use cosmetic surgery. We can build submarines, skyscrapers and spacecraft. All in all were pretty impressive or are we? In Animals Did It First we discover that animals are better than humans at most things and almost always got round to it years before.
